Wondering what the M.I.T is for your team?  Find out in this video training!

The #1 Thing You Can Do For Your Team

As an owner, you have a lot of responsibilities in your business. When it comes to your team, there are so many things to consider.  You likely feel as though you need to better onboard and train your team.  It’s also possible you are still trying to establish good communication and accountability rhythms.  But, as Bradley shared in the video training above, there is one thing that is more important than all the other tasks you can do for you team.  It is giving your team your energy.  While this sounds like an abstract concept at first, keep reading.  You’ll understand what this means and how you can implement it for your team!

First, Find Your Energy Rhythm

It’s hard to give energy if you don’t have any!  As an owner, it is your responsibility to understand your natural energy rhythms.  While this can sound unrelated to business, we want you to take a moment and think about it.  When you begin your day, are you up early in the morning and ready to get to work?  It could be more likely that you have a burst of energy in the late morning through mid afternoon.  Or, are you a night owl?  It’s important to know your natural energy rhythms so that you can plan your day around them.  For example, if you are groggy and dislike interacting with people before 10 AM, then you shouldn’t schedule a team meeting or a client call at 8 AM.  Or, if you experience that post-lunch slump, then you should avoid scheduling a lot of meetings during that time frame.

Then, Plan to Give Your Team Energy

The most important thing (M.I.T.) you can give your team is your energy.  When you show up to meetings with high energy, your team can feed off of this!  In the video above, Bradley shared about a meeting he had with the BGC team when he had low energy.  Not even 10 minutes into the meeting, he realized that his low energy was dragging down the meeting.  He chose to end the meeting and reschedule for a better time so that he could lead his team well.

How To Protect Your Energy

Now that you’ve recognized your energy rhythms and planned to give your team energy, how do you protect your energy on a regular basis?  Here are a few quick tips from Bradley:

  • Recognize activities that drain your energy, and then plan around them.
  • If you have an unusually packed calendar, try to avoid adding team meetings to that day.
  • Take a moment to think about your eating and exercise habits.  If you’re low energy after lunch, then avoid meetings in that time frame.
