What Does It Take To Identify The Obstacle?

I shared earlier this year that I am being much more intentional about what books I read. And just last week, I gave you some of my key applications from The Obstacle is the way. I want to read to share one part from the preface: “He then concluded with these powerful words, destined for maximum, the impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

Let me ask you a few clarifying questions from last week…

  • What is current reality of your business?
  • What is good?
  • What is not good?
  • How many customers do you serve?
  • How many team members do you have?
  • What’s your revenue?
  • What was your profit?
  • In 2023, what’s your culture like?
  • What are your marketing systems like?
  • What’s your sales playbook look like?

Understanding Your Obstacle

We could keep going and asking so many questions to pinpoint the current reality of your business. Then, if you lean out, you have something that you’ve set as your desired reality for December 2024.

The journey that you can go through figure out the specific thing you need to work is simple, but then you need to put your efforts behind that obstacle. Let me say it again: Everything, including all of the effort and resources necessary, goes toward knocking that down. Why? Because the obstacle is the way to grow from point A, where you are today to point B.

Creating Forward Momentum

I asked the same question to Blueprint Members. What is standing in the way? Then, we went through that exercise to pinpoint where they are today. We covered this in great detail, and then we discussed point B in great detail. Finally, we began to discuss what was truly standing in the way. The answers that came out of that conversation were pretty profound.

A lot of people said, “I really don’t know. I don’t know what that is.” That’s a fair answer, but as an owner, it is your responsibility to take time and go through the process of identifying the obstacle. So I hope you’ll do this before January, and discover the way forward in your own business.

I hope 2023 was a fantastic year. I also hope you’re building upon that momentum going into 2024.
