As a business owner, it’s easy to put off different business building activities until you find a more convenient time. Unfortunately, the time will never come. Here is why it is important to take action rather than waiting for the “right” time.

What Happens When You Recognize a Business Need?

If you’re like most business owners I know, there are a million things on your plate. You have a hand in daily processes, a toe in marketing, a foot in sales, and a big gaping hole in business development. It’s normal to believe that there will be a more convenient time to put your owner and visionary hat on to grow your business. However, most of the time when you see a need or opportunity, you lack the bandwidth to take advantage of it. This present us with the inconvenient reality and the “bad news” that I share with most business owners.

The Time Will Never Come

The bad news is that the time will never come to do all the things you’ve been putting off. As a business owner, you have to choose to take action on things that will build your business.  For example, I recently had someone ask me for a playbook on creating playbooks. Now, I had standards that my team followed to create playbooks, but no documentation for it. So, instead of continuing to put it off and allowing my EA to remind people every time they used the wrong font, I took 15 minutes to create a playbook. Then, I sent it to my EA to see what I had missed. After creating it, we sent the new playbook over to the person who asked.  This was a process I needed for my business, but it wasn’t something I had prioritized for my time. Instead, I waited until it was needed immediately to execute.

How To Create The Time

The reality is that most owners are last minute with execution. We have a lot of great ideas, but not much time to make them happen. Instead, we wait until it is past the time that something is needed to make it happen. However, when you begin to structure your day around owner activities that make money and improve team processes, you are more likely to be able to sustainably grow your business.
