As we begin 2023, do you know where you want to be at the end of the year? Here’s why you need a blueprint for your business, and how to make one.

Defining a Business Blueprint

A blueprint in your business means knowing where you want to go. Here at Business Growth Curator, we recommend having a three year vision, objectives and key results for each year, and 90 day (quarterly) targets.  Can you see why we focus on having a blueprint first in our businesses?  If you don’t know where you want to go, it is impossible to know whether or not you’re headed in the right direction.  However, having a blueprint isn’t enough.

Why You Need a Plan to Go With Your Blueprint

When you want to build a house, you usually go to an architect with all your ideas and discuss what you want. Then the architect will draw up a sketch of the home, and you’ll work with them to modify it until it is the exact vision. This becomes your blueprint.

But if you handed that blueprint as-is to a general contractor, they would not be able to immediately build a home. They need plans for HVAC, water, electricity, and all the elements that go into a home.

This is similar to having a blueprint and a plan in your business.

What is a Plan?

A plan in your business is the “how.” If you know you want to add 25 customers to your books this month, that is the blueprint.  Cold calling 100 people in your target demographic and running Facebook ads to capture leads may be the plan.  If you didn’t have that objective, you wouldn’t know what you were shooting for. This means that it will be impossible to develop the plan to get there.
